This game is a very good strategy game for those people who have the PSP. The price was very reasonable. It has cool cut scenes from the movie. The PSP is sorely missing games like this. I would recommend this to any Lord of the Rings and strategy RPG fans.
If your a die hard Lotr fan ok with turn based moves in the game then you'll love it. I got the disc only, and it had a part of the case in okay condition. The games story is the battles from LOTR. like you would expect, so heres the pros and cons on this game.
Pros: * gives what it is made for, being in charge of the battles and play as both mordor and the fellowship. * has Movie cutscenes and music/ sound effects. * Not as much glitches (that ive faced) * characters brought over from the movie with good abilities and powers.
Cons: * There is Frame rate drops at times and the camera sometimes goes out of the map, and shows the textures of an object stretched. * some of the characters are used as pawns and other characters are almost emotionless. *This is Chess LOTR. Don't expect any more. * at times the map gets too big, and at other times too small and cramped. *Save the game Alot! * for every battle song its the same song from LOTR: the two towers. *it gets very dark and emotionless in the game. * you can get very bored with this game at various times when you shouldn't. * the Items sold in the shop do almost nothing. *at times you'll face off characters that weren't even in the battle.
Over all the game had its bad moments and good moments. and it is for the psp so I cant expect 10/10 movie licensed games. all I can say is, if your a Die hard lotr person then youd like it, if you expected more with this game.. you'll be disappointed. and if your just trying it out. I hope it goes better for you. Hope this was helpful.
I got this game because I really liked The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age for Gameboy Advance and after some research I discovered that Tactics has very similar gameplay. (so if you enjoyed The Third Age for GBA, you'll like this). I'm satisfied with the game.
The pros are: - The ability to zoom in and see units up close with pretty good graphics, or zoom out and observe most of the battlefield. - Your heroes level up very quickly, even those that don't participate in a particular mission. - Between missions you view scenes from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, which is pretty cool. - You can participate in all of the major battles from the movies, as they are all in the game. - Your heroes have very cool abilities, which you can use on the first turn. - Strategy involves capturing the high ground so you deal more damage with ranged weapons, using your hero's skills to stun enemy troops, sneak past them, etc.
Cons: - It takes a lot of grinding and replaying levels to collect the necessary coins to buy upgrades and items for your heroes. - The game is very short. After you beat the main campaign, there isn't anything to do besides upgrade your heroes or replay missions. Some unlockable characters or more missions would have been nice. - After a while your heroes can become insanely overpowered. Once you purchase the most expensive spell for your heroes, you have the ability to win battles almost instantly. - Despite what the description on the back of the box says, you cannot "create massive armies". Usually you control about 2-3 heroes and the same amount of troops per mission. This is one of the reasons the game is short and the heroes feel overpowered. If there was more focus on units/armies and less on hero tanks, the game would have been harder and more strategic.
Despite the cons though, this is definitely a fun game that will keep you occupied for a week or two. If you liked The Third Age for GBA or the Fire Emblem series, get this for sure. If you're a Lord of the Rings fan, get this. If you're looking for an epic PSP game that will keep you occupied for months... get Monster Hunter!
